It was a group of rank and file union members who stole the show at Sydney's Town Hall. People like nurse Anne O'Connor and crane driver Brett Gay spoke about the impact of the proposed changes on their families, their workmates, their conditions, and pay. They spoke of their fears and their determination to fight for as long as it takes. Meetings throughout the state overflowed. In many centres local marches took place following the SkyChannel broadcasts. In Sydney 20,000 marched through the streets to the Harbour Bridge and Circular Quay where banners reading “Your rights at work – worth fighting for” were unfurled. For other stories on the IR changes and their impact on PSA members please see our IR changes page.
